2 Days with Moni for smartsafe

Moni and I just spent 2 days in Charleston working on Phase 3 of WCKM and some very exciting developments came out of that time.

First: We decided to give WCKM a makeover. After much thought and feedback from instructors, students and women, we decided to rename the program. The newname:

smartsafe
Women's Self-Empowerment

We wanted the name to reflect the core tenets of the program:
1. Women can easily learn to outsmart predators and prevent attacks.
2. Women can be physically trained in simple defensive techniques so they can be safe, survive, and return home to their loved ones unharmed.

We are confident thatsmartsafe is a name that needs no explaining to those who would normally be unfamiliar with CKM and Combat Survival (since we are marketing to all women, not just women with martial arts/fighting systems backgrounds).

WCKM Charleston

I want to congratulate all of the Charleston WCKM graduates!!!! You worked so hard and were very supportive of each other. Thank you for your commitment to the course. Moni and I are extremely proud to have each of you representing this program!

In this particular course we were able to see vividly how well the techniques work against a very strong, big attacker (Sean) and that women of all ages, sizes and fitness levels can perform them with ease. Rita, in her sixties, was fierce and fast. Sonoko, who traveled all the way from Japan for the course and who maybe weighs 90 pounds soaking wet, was feisty, precise and very adept at escaping quickly. And the two Kims were bringing it on with some serious power, strength and grace. Sean has a keen understanding of the importance of prevention and a commitment to sharing the information with women. Hi Carol, Congratulations on passing your WCKM course. I agree, it is a wonderful course for ladies and I really hope that more and more CKM instructors realise the potential out there. It would be fantastic if we could come up with a way to bring WCKM to masses of ladies. Over here in the UK, my research says that ladies will spend only one day on a self defence course so that is what I am hoping to do in the next month or so. If I lived in a big city, I would certainly offer the once a week option, but here in sleepy Somerset, England, there would not be the uptake.

Has any other WCKM instructor tried once a week lessons? I would love to hear from the New York 'pioneers' - hope life is good for you all.

To the WCKM Commandonators...

I am so proud to congratulate the graduates of the WCKM Toronto Instructor Course!!!! You all gave it your best and worked diligently every minute of the course. You supported each other and pushed each other (literally!). I was impressed with your dedication and your ability to absorb the material and connect the dots. And your pressure drills rocked!!! I know that each of you will be fantastic at teaching women to protect themselves!

I also want to thank Ilan Rosenberg for allowing us to use his school (Reality Combat Fitness in Newmarket). What a fantastic space and family oriented school! Anyone living in the area who is interested in CKM, martial arts or fitness training should check it out!

Thanks also to Henry Kou for all of his assistance and time--and for slamming Tim against the wall so hard in the pressure drill !!

It was great meeting and working with you and Darryl this past weekend! A lot of hard work, a lot of laughs, and a lot of great learning. It was a blast and nice to see that you can really bring it during the pressure test (as if there was ever a doubt)! Oh, and thanks for the shirt!

Great post, Carol!

I was teaching a group of women yesterday and thinking about how perfect International Women's Day is for WCKM seminars. Moni and I wrote an article for Budo Magazine (on media page) and one of the things we mentioned in it is how, worldwide, despite all the advances and opportunities women have made, the violence against them continues and in some ways is getting even more severe. There is still this vast disconnect in women's personal security that crosses continents, cultures, and generations. WCKM means to change that!

Since one of the primary objectives of WCKM is to revolutionize women's self-defense (worldwide) I like the idea of next year trying to organize all the instructors we certify this year to do some kind of event where we link efforts in various locations to spread the word about this new system of self-protection.

So let's think on it. We can also think about liaisoning with other women's related organizations out there (an idea Diane is workin...

Taught my first Class - Test run

Hi all,

Last night in Stroudsburg, PA I taught my first student class #1. She is one of Tony Kraemer's regular CKM students, who knew that I was going for WCKM training and was really looking forward to starting the WCKM program. It took a bit longer than an hour to get through the class because I spent a lot of time talking to her about the philosophy of the program, the different class structures and the general class construction. I used last night as a "test run", with my student's permission, and asked her to give me feed back through each section. It was a learning experience for both of us, but well worth the time spent going through the class "kicking the tires". By the end of the class, she was completely engaged in the material, both from the talks and techniques perspective. She was asking for more and more, so I think she will definitely be involved in the future. She made the comment that, (paraphrasing) ..."this course is something every ...

WOW!!!

I just got back from the Instructors course for Women's CKM over this past weekend. As always Moni did not disappoint. Moni has developed over 50 physical self-protection for women within Phase 1 & 2 of this program, incredible! I felt the class was expertly geared towards circumstances that women often encounter if & when they find themselves in a stalker/prey dichotomy.

In addition to Moni's technical self protection expertise, we were also fortunate to be afforded a forum with Laura Clark, an expert in Women's Self Protection, an accomplished author and the WCKM program coordinator. Ms. Clark brought an interesting perspective to the class. Considering her lengthy research into female attack scenarios & case studies Laura Clark was able to help us all see things from the perspective of an abusive mate or potential rapist. Women's Survival - WCKM Course

I have just returned from one of the most wonderful experiences of my life - the WCKM course in New York. It was everything I had hoped for and more! I felt compelled to go. I am also a certifed Martial Arts Instructor and teach, amongst others, Ladies Only classes but was concerned that, for ladies, the traditional martial arts might not be effective under the stress of attack. So I wanted to find out what would absolutely, without doubt, work! And I most certainly have found that system. Martial Arts is fantastic, I still love it, I love instructing it - we have amazing students but it is different to WCKM. There is a need for both MA and WCKM. And I feel privileged to be able to teach both.

We had one of the most feminine, smallest and daintiest ladies - I have ever met on our course with us (yes Linda, I mean you). It was wonderful to watch Linda get out of what would be life threatening situations with ease and composure. And all of these techniques have been tried an...

Hi Elizabeth, Diane here! What a fantastic course! I had never had any CKM experience before, but with fantastic instruction from so many, I managed to get WCKM Phase 2 Instructor. Since returning to the UK, I have had so much interest from ladies and their families so now I just have to get myself organized. To other CKM Instructors here in the UK, I would very much encourage you to take this course - as Elizabeth (level 4 CKM Instructor) says - there are different techniques that even the smallest, most feminine lady can learn. There is a big gap in the market for Ladies Only self defence here. Speak to you soon, Elizabeth. Hope to get in touch with the rest of the Pioneers as well, Diane.

I HAVE JUST ATTENDED THE 1ST EVER WCKM INSTUCTOR COURSE IN NEW YORK CITY. "WOW!!" THATS THE BEST WAY I CAN EXPLAIN IT, THIS WAS ONE OF THE MOST EDUCATIONAL WEEKENDS (AND MOST EXHAUSTING) THAT I CAN REMEMBER. I WOULD TO THANK LAURA CLARK AND MONI AIZIK AND THE THE REST OF THE COMBAT SURVIAL TEAM FOR ALL THE TIME AND EFFORT THEY HAVE PUT INTO DEVELOPING THE MOST MODERN AND EFFECTIVE WOMANS SELF DEFENSE PROGRAM EVER.
